Temurin reproducible verification instructions for setting up a new Windows machine with the current required VS2022 toolchain (Visual Studio 2022 LTSC 17.12.12)

The current Windows Visual Studio 2022 compiler toolchain for building Temurin jdk-21+ is 'Visual Studio 2022 LTSC 17.12.12'. (current version info).

Note: Please note the current Windows "ReDist" DevKit is based on an earlier VS2022 version, if you have just created the "ReDist" DevKit, please ensure you completely remove it following the instructions below in point 1.

As part of preparing for a "Temurin reproducible verification", you will need a clean Windows x64 machine, and follow these instructions to install the required current Windows Visual Studio 2022 compiler toolchain :

  1. Uninstall any existing Microsoft Visual Studio components from your build machine, including:
  • Microsoft Visual Studio VS2022(or any other versions)
  • Microsoft Visual Studio Installer
  • Microsoft C++ <year..year> Redistributables (There is usually two packages that need removing)
  • Windows Software Development Kit
  • Windows SDK Addon

Then "Restart" your Windows machine.

  1. Download "Build Tools" installer from Microsoft for version 'Visual Studio 2022 LTSC 17.12.12' : Open a "Windows Command Prompt" and run :

  1. Run the "Build Tools" installer interactively using the command :
.\vs_BuildTools.exe --nocache --wait --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.VCTools --includeRecommended --includeOptional --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.VC.Tools.x86.x64 --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.VC.Tools.ARM64 --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.VC.ATL.ARM64 --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.VC.MFC.ARM64
  1. Allow the Build Tools installer to download the necessary packages from Microsoft and install, this may take some time..
  2. Having completed this installation the Windows machine is now setup for performing future "Temurin reproducible verifications" that are using this version of the VS2022 toolchain.
